Durante un viaggio in Tanzania, Caterina Giuliani, l’ideatrice del progetto, si è trovata faccia a faccia con il problema delle ustioni in contesti poveri di risorse: i fuochi accesi per cucinare o scaldarsi provocano ogni anno migliaia di ferite da ustioni, che dopo 4-5 giorni si infettano, portando molto spesso alla morte. Tale piaga sfortunatamente colpisce in gran parte gli abitanti dei piccoli centri rurali, soprattutto bambini dagli 0 ai 4 anni, per i quali non esistono ad oggi cure adeguate.
Corax è un dispositivo biomedico che crea un ambiente sterile che riduce la possibilità dell’insorgere delle infezioni grazie ad una tecnologia che controlla temperatura e umidità e ad un sistema di lavaggio delle lesioni.
Il prodotto è leggero e flessibile, così da permettere anche il trasporto in sicurezza dei pazienti dal contesto rurale ai centri attrezzati. È inoltre costituito da materiali low-cost, accessibili ai paesi in via di sviluppo. Possiede una interfaccia user friendly che consente la fruizione del device ad utenti di lingua e cultura differenti fra loro.
Negli scorsi 3 mesi abbiamo raccolto più di 30 feedback positivi da parte dei medici dei centri grandi ustioni africani. Ad oggi, sulla base di tali feedback, ci stiamo avviando alla progettazione del prototipo.
Abbiamo partecipato alla Call for Ideas 2019 di Alma Cube e siamo stati selezionati fra le 30 migliori idee imprenditoriali partecipando a StartUp Day 2019. In questo contesto, abbiamo vinto il premio del Web Marketing Festival come miglior idea, staccando il pass per l’evento che si terrà a Rimini dal 20 al 22 giugno.
During a trip to Tanzania, Caterina Giuliani, the project’s creator, found herself face to face with the problem of burns in resource-poor contexts: the fires lit for cooking or heating cause thousands of burn wounds each year, which later 4-5 days are infected, often leading to death. This plague unfortunately largely affects the inhabitants of small rural towns, especially children from 0 to 4 years, for whom adequate care does not exist today.
Corax is a biomedical device that creates a sterile environment that reduces the possibility of infections arising thanks to a technology that controls temperature and humidity and a lesion washing system.
The product is light and flexible, so as to allow the safe transport of patients from the rural context to the equipped centers. It is also made up of low-cost materials, accessible to developing countries. It has a user friendly interface that allows the use of the device to users of different languages and cultures.
In the past 3 months we have collected more than 30 positive feedbacks from doctors in the large African burn centers. To date, based on these feedbacks, we are going to design the prototype.
We participated in the Call for Ideas 2019 by Alma Cube and were selected among the 30 best business ideas by participating in StartUp Day 2019. In this context, we won the Web Marketing Festival award for best idea, taking the pass for the event that will be held in Rimini from 20 to 22 June.
